ZDHC stands for Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals and it's an industry program that sets standards for eliminating toxic substances from manufacturing. What was once considered a noteworthy achievement is now simply expected, much like a restaurant needs a health permit to operate. For ECI, ensuring our discharged water and air emissions are free from hazardous substances isn't a "value-add." It's fundamental to how we operate. Our approach is straightforward: build strong foundations and maintain rigorous standards across every step of our chemical management process.
Stage One: Input Management – Sourcing with Purpose
Chemical management begins long before production starts. The dye stuff and chemical agents we use are carefully selected through a systematic vetting process.
- In-Check Reports:
We maintain transparency by uploading our complete chemical inventory list to the ZDHC Gateway platform periodically. This allows us—and our partners—to track exactly what enters our facility.
- Procurement Standards:
We follow a phased approach to eliminate non-compliant chemicals. Our procurement team sources only dye stuff and chemical agents that are either Bluesign certified or meet ZDHC MRSL (Manufacturing Restricted Substances List) standards. If a chemical doesn't meet these international benchmarks, it doesn't enter our facility.
Stage Two: Knowledge Building – Investing in Expertise
Quality equipment alone doesn't ensure safety. That's why we invest in developing our team's technical capabilities.

Our technicians participate in ongoing professional development through the ZDHC Academy platform.
- Course c04 Certification:
This specialized training focuses on the Chemical Management System (CMS) Technical Industry Guide. Through c04, our team gains practical knowledge in proper chemical storage, handling protocols, and risk management.
This allows our chemical management team is guided by trained professionals, not guesswork.
Stage Three: Output Verification – Measuring Results
After managing inputs and investing in training, how do we verify effectiveness? We practice through data management.
Third-party testing labs visit our discharge points to collect wastewater samples biannually. These tests measure contamination at parts per million (ppm) or even parts per billion (ppb) levels—precision that leaves no room for oversight.
